🎧 Kings X, "Three Sides of One". First album in 14 years. Even if you were just a casual observer of the band or the genre, give this a listen. It's classic Kings X in the vein of their first 4 or 5 records. Rollicking rockers with ridiculous guitar solos, smoldering ballads with Beatles harmonies, and a shroud of darkness in the mix. Welcome back.

A re-post of shameless self-promotion:
I am very proud to say my new music podcast is finally live. "Let's Play Ten" is a bi-weekly show that features ten brand new songs from the indie/diy/small label community. We want to support these artists and their labels, and help some folks find their new favorite bands. We'll tell some stories and give you the info. "Let's Play Ten" is on ALL services. Please check it out! You can subscribe directly at 40ficreations.com/podcast-1

🎧 Disq, “Collection”. Last minute decision to go see Neko Case last night. This band opened. Not at all what you’d expect for the “mandals and hemp purses” crowd. These kids came out and blew the doors off the place with a raucous set of loud alt-prog-punk that had my fellow 50-somethings pushing the ear-plugs in as far as they would go. I LOVED this band. Been spinning this “cd” most of the day. Strap in.

My 2012 Macbook Pro has finally taken its last byte. Old Mac served me well - 160 podcasts, countless music projects, voice over recording, managing a 500gb music library, and my journey thru and eventual return from social media. Thanks a lot, old thing. You’re all backed up and your memory will live on. Time to let go.

🎧 Faux Fiction, “Death No Terror!”. Long gestating new ep from one of my favorite DIY bands. Faux Fiction plays hot and sweaty rock and roll mini-operas about adult domestic life, navigating social circles, and damaged interpersonal relationships. Give it a listen and throw them a couple of bucks at fauxfictionband.bandcamp.com. .

🎧 "A Tribute to Lifted...", Various Artists. Take This To Heart Records enlisted 13 of its artists to record a re-make of Bright Eyes' 2002 album "Lifted" and its WRECKING me. All proceeds go to the National Muscular Sclerosis Society. Pay what you want at takethistoheartrecords.bandcam.

Last 4….I promise.

Roman era bust (We named him “Jethro Tull”)

Took my oldest to NYC for a few days of art, shopping and eating. Probably walked 20,000 steps a day.

Well, Lawrence O’Donnell looks like he can barely contain his giddiness interviewing A.I. Ed Begley Jr.

I am going live on stationhead at 130pm EST. Stationhead.live/mpcavalier. DL the free app to join in the chat or join me on air. Thanks in advance!!

🎧 Mahalia Jackson, “Bless This House”. Posted without comment.

🎧 Beach Bunny, “Emotional Creature”. Lili Trifilio writes a killer pop hook and wraps it in some super sweet guitar driven pop-rock. Another great young artist laying herself all out there for our entertainment, and to our benefit. I almost let this one slip by and I’m glad I didn’t.

🎧 Dawes, “Misadventures of Doomscroller”. I really want to like this album just I have wanted to like every Dawes release since “We’re All Gonna Die”. I love the first two albums, but with each subsequent release since then I have moved farther away from digging this band. I am all for creative evolution. Dawes is just evolving into something that doesn’t really entertain me anymore. They’ve “Wilco’d” themselves into my personal budget bin.

Clan Cavalier took a day trip to the beach. This is the splash pad at Silver Beach.

🎧 Company of Thieves, "Running From a Gamble". It's a damn shame that COT only released two albums - because they are both most excellent. I would listen to Genevieve Schatz sing a grocery list. I love how she just explodes into an almost punk fury - this is solid aughts rock and roll.

🎧 Metric, "Synthetica". I think I may be actually falling in love with Metric's new album "Formentera" the way one falls in love with a person. But that's my hang up, right? When you are falling in love, you wanna know everything about that person/thing that brought them to the absolute perfection that you believe them to be. So, I am going back, re-visiting a few Metric albums, and deep-diving into the genesis of "Formentera"s deep dark secrets. I know. Weirdo.

🎧 "The Fame Studios Story 1961-1973". Out of print and unavailable on streaming, my amazing SO got me this 3CD set for my birthday. The list of artists and instantly recognizable songs that came out of FAME Studios reads like a history of American soul and r&b, and the FAME sound is an integral part of that history. This will be my morning (at least!).
