🎧 S.G. Goodman, “Teeth Marks”. Music this good defies hyperbole but I’ll give it the old college try. Rockified Alt-Country (or vice versa) with a social and cultural conscience. An album that seems inhabited by ghosts This may be the next step in the evolution of whatever genre this is. Hickman, KY should just go ahead and put up her statue now. And that voice is just….damn….

🎧 Horsegirl, “Versions of Modern Performance”. Man I needed new music today. Three TEENAGERS from Chicago, blending a little shoegaze and a little 90s PNW alt-rock into this simmering goulash of a debut album. If “Option 8” doesn’t get your head bobbing, turn in your badge. Long awaited and well worth it.

🎧 MC5, “Kick Out The Jams”. One of a handful of critically acclaimed albums that I just don’t get at all. I get WHY it appeals to critics, its primal garage rock. But its too…immature for my ears. The drums are sloppy, the guitars are out of tune, it sounds like they’re playing together for the first time, pre-soaked in beer and skunk weed. Again, I get why they were the darlings of critics. And I appreciate the many bands that formed in their wake. Godfathers of punk, indeed.

🎧 Current listen: Miles Davis, "Live-Evil". I've spent many hours trying to figure this record out. Loose live jam sessions cut together and interpolated with studio recordings by a completely different band. It's early 70's Miles at his....Miles-est. Stellar players and nothing is left on the table. @MPNP

Fire’s on. Smores and Hot Dogs ready to roll. Plenty of weird canned beverages. Mavis and Levon on the box. Wish you were here! Cheers Coso fam!! Much love.

🎧 Current listen: Stars, “From Capelton Hill”. 🇨🇦 A little bit more introspective, but no less energetic and the melodies are flying. “Build a Fire” would fit neatly on any dance floor. “Palmistry” and “Pretenders” open the record in full motion. Give it a spin.

🎧 Current Listen: Danielle Ponder, "The Only Way Out". New single from former Rochester public defender. We have enough lawyers. We don't have enough Danielle Ponders. What a voice. Counting the weeks to her album drop in September.

🎧 Current listen: HAAi, "Baby We're Ascending". It's Friday night (for a lot of people), let's wash off this horrific week, head into the woods, maybe ingest a little "alteration", and rave. I'll bring the glo-stix.

🎧 Current listen: Biitchseat, "Float". New album from Cleveland indie rock mainstays. A little "poppier" and polished than previous releases, but still heads down charging guitars and great melodies.

🎧 Current listen: Yes, “Going For The One”. IMHO this is Alan White’s finest hour with Yes. From the straight ahead rock rhythms of the title track, to the power drumming of “Parallels” to the complex 11/8 time of “Awaken”, he carried this record on his back. Rest in peace, Alan. And thank you.

🎧 Current Listen: Sweet Pill, "Where The Heart Is". From the exploding Philly emo/punk/pop scene, so many vibes on this record. This might be my new favorite album (today).

🎧 Current Listen: Sibelius, "Symphonies 1 & 5". Isolationist music for walks across a sweeping frozen tundra.

🎧 Current listen: Art Blakey, "Like Someone In Love". Wordless music today. Words are meaningless right now.

🎧 Current listen: Manic Street Preachers, “Postcards From A Young Man”. Another band that makes me wish I was Welsh.

🎧 Current listen: My Sleeping Karma, "Moksha". It's never too early in the day for trippy Psych/Space rock from Germany. Right @LisaHope ?

🎧 Current listen: Anekdoten, "From Within". Why NOT a little heavy Swedish prog to start the day??

🎧 Current listen: Gary Baartz, Adrian Younge, Ali Shaheed Muhammed, "Jazz Is Dead 6". Master jazz sax player Baartz teams with hip-hop producer Younge and Tribe Called Quest founder Muhammed for the most recent JID collab. It's a good one, Baartz is playing some killer lines for a man of 81, and the music never ventures too far into either extreme. Great stuff. Good article on the album here:

Current listen: Tears For Fears, "The Tipping Point". Yeah, call it a comeback. IMHO it's neck and neck with "Seeds of Love" for their best record.
