Up before 0500. What the hell with my brain? Guess I'll fire up the next episode of Dr Who and get an hour in on the exercise bike. Then I have a long list of #newmusicfriday releases to check out. Late middle age sleep patterns are a serious clusterfuck.
@MPCavalier ooh! Where are you in the episodes?
@Graci
I just finished Series 8, EP8 "Mummy on the Orient Express". It's taking me a wee but longer to "like" the 12th Doctor, especially since 9 thru 11 were so instantly likeable. But I do appreciate Peter Capaldi's grumpier take. He's not having fun the way Matt Smith's doctor did so clearly there is something weighing on him. This is my very first pass thru Dr Who, btw. I find it revelatory, not just as sci-fi, but as entertainment. Can't believe I waited until my late 50's to watch it!
@MPCavalier Mummy was really good. I liked 12 and more so on reviewing. I'm struggling through 13 now. (I think Chibnall should be fired into the sun)
@Graci
From what I've been told - the writing for the 13th doctor left much to be desired. I actually watched the 60th anny specials and the first 2 eps of the 15th doc and thought "wow this is really really amazing" - so I stopped, did my usual research, and went back to the re-boot. Trying very hard to pace myself (no more than 2 eps a day and a few days break sometimes). But already looking forward to starting again.
@MPCavalier Jodie really got shafted. It's a shame. I think Ncuti is doing a great job as 15
@Graci
Yeah I liked him immediately. Maybe TMI here, but at the time I watched those two eps I was in a really bad place emotionally and, I don't know, he just made me feel better?? I mean, he IS a doctor! But the joy he brought to it was a much needed distraction. I might have to race thru the rest of the back catalog to get to his season.
@MPCavalier i absolutely LOVE the Paternoster Gang, Vastra being my favorite
@Graci
They are a spin-off waiting to happen. Jenny's "this one's on me" ass-kicking moment in "The Crimson Horror" was chef's kiss.
@Graci
I do very much miss Strax, though. I am sure I am not the first to say he would have made an excellent, and hilarious, companion.
