🎧 The Clash, “London Calling”. Released 43 yrs ago today, and its bringing back some big waves of memory. I was still finding my musical self in Dec 79. The Wall had just come out but I couldn’t get into it. Then, the “record store guy” handed me this album. It was like “I think you’re ready for The Clash now”. This record helped me find a lot of new friends in junior high and a lot of new music too. And after 43 years, damn does it sound good.
@Finite187
Funny thing is i was completely oblivious to prog in the late 70s. I knew of the bands but didn’t listen to any of the records (except Tull thanks to my brothers record collection). So when punk happened I was about 11 or 12 and coming out of a KISS phase and entering a WHO fixation. All those articles about the who that mentioned punk rock turned my head but the “good” punk records were hard to find. Thank goodness for a place called ZigZag Records in Brooklyn. That was my school!
@MPCavalier I play this album at least twice a month while at work. Still holds up.
Thanks for sharing your memories!
Just tossed the record on the (um metaphorical) turntable - it's now what I'm listening to while I work at the bench.

Nice! I am actually in the car waiting for my 13 to get his braces off. Sitting here with the car stereo blasting London Calling like a crazy teenager again.
@MPCavalier Oh god yes, The Clash >>>>>> Pink Floyd. I love how punk destroyed progressive rock in the late 70s
