Our @WordsmithFL is an absolute fount of info not only around Trek but also the nuances of TV production as they pertain to important eras of history.

Can we cheer on his latest project? It's a real treat: THE WRITTEN TREK will go step by step through show elements, but these are *not* mere fact dumps.

Give his latest post a gander to see what I mean. The connections he draws offer some choice thoughts for , too!

Today's friendly reminder that personal growth doesn't always look pretty--but don't let that stop you!

Morning CoSo!

US friends! Here's a friendly routine reminder that legacy media is not on your side.

Legacy media is going to do its darnedest in the next two weeks to make your election feel like a tighter race, if not stump entirely for a man whose funders aren't so ideologically removed from the people who own these news outlets, too.

Stay sharp. Stay sane(ish). Watch your media intake from now through election day!

My mental health is pretty good today, but still--always relevant.

We didn't start the fire, etc.

If you're still here, that's enough. Have a lovely one, eh?

I don't have autumn here, so sometimes I just sit with the leaves that have an autumn feel to them.

Today, I was joined by an itty bitty .

(G'morning, CoSo. Not back to my runs yet, but slowly rebuilding the habit of getting out early, at least!)

I've been skipping through old uploads lately, and tonight's was a hoot: 1968, Yandro 184 - an issue filled with commentary on recent movies (2001, Planet of the Apes), episode commentary, new books by the likes of Ellison, and tons on fan culture with the usual drama around Worldcon, Nebulas, and censorship.

Just a delight of a reminder that the more things change, the more things stay the same!

Some choice bits screencapped below:

I came back from my first appointment to find a Christmas market is on in my apartment complex this afternoon.

Music and the occasional sales barker blasting.

🤦🏻‍♂️ This meeting at 1 is so doomed.

I have excellent agendas that work 90% of the time, but today every possible factor is working against me. I put up what meagre barriers I have for the laptop, and... we shall see how that works!

I also want brownie points for not stopping at the bookstore or videogame arcade. Time to go home and finish an *easier* piece now, on the challenges of transitioning from a petroleum-based extraction economy, care of Colombia's super-tough challenges at present.

(Yep, that's still easier than the piece on war derangement I'd originally planned!)

Then maybe fiction? 🤞🏻

Now on route to a tourist zone to check that its acclaimed changes are "all that".

Hi CoSo!

I've been consumed by my ego this week.

How are you? How've you been keeping sane? (Or at least from going more nuts?)

What's one small triumph in your life as of late?

Name one (1) art that's moved you as of late.

If you had your druthers, where would you be today, and what would you be doing?

Just got out of a meeting that made me feel a little more "human" again.

It helps to be reminded that you're not the *most* incompetent beastie in the universe.

Middle-of-the-pack incompetent, maybe. Grazing the leaders' circle only on super bad days.

But there truly is little better salve to feeling terrible about yourself than to be reminded that you can still be helpful to others, just as awful as you are.

*throws up hands*

My brain is being ridiculous. Still can't wake early & make it "go", and haven't been outside the building in a while. All this week and last I've been struggling with this, and workflow has suffered.

I know the next trick I need to pull to try to reboot myself, but MY GOODNESS, do I ever have notes for the next rollout for these ridiculous meat sacks of ours.

Wee police chase in a thunderstorm this afternoon. Altercation started with a slew of taxis & bikes halted, some drivers beefing. Then police arrived, drew firearms, searched & released all but one, & started searching every other biker.

One noped out, turning back to try to slip into the highway elsewhere, & a cop zipped off after him. Then on the *other* side police gave chase to someone else.

Now stop-and-search continues on both sides.

Join me with popcorn? 🍿

One little smile to share, at least.

"Miss Iris Davis, a nineteen year old from Clapham, London is a volunteer worker of the Dumb Friends Leagues, and spends a great deal of time recovering cats with the aid of a "lassoo" from the debris of bombed house. So far she has rescued six hundred of these feline strays, 8 November 1940."

[Dumb Friends is an animal rescue organization, if the name seems odd. Chapters exist today under that name.]

Just remember: we're all nightmares to someone.

The trick is learning to love the nightmare you are to yourself.

(Deep-sea chimaera, if curious.)

@ecksmc, I hope you're having a better day than yesterday (especially with the bullpucky you were combatting).

Pursuant to our last chat, this book just dropped: WE HAVE NEVER BEEN WOKE, a look at how education, nonprofit, and media "thought leaders" leverage the language of equity to further their own careers.

"Indeed, their egalitarian credentials help them gain more power and status, often at the expense of the marginalized and disadvantaged."

Funny timing!

No weight training in the park for an hilarious reason: a giant military/police event in the stadium. My equipment was surrounded by men in dress uniform, down to the swords. 😅 Ah well, good business for the tiendas, at least. One had to run an extra pot open-fire style, to keep hot water on site.

I'll restart at home instead. 👌🏻

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Potato

How's everyone doing? Mood okay as the evening barrels in?

This was the first news page to greet me today: another day in which so much fresh trauma will be heaped upon grief.

My first task today was counselling a blind friend trying to help her father with dementia in Florida right now.

I think we all have smaller crises we're trying to be present for, while navigating the greater violence of our world.

I want to encourage folks to take breaks and focus on what they *can* do.

Survive today, maybe to thrive later on. 🕊️
