Funnily enough, while making patacones I was sent a writing request from a top travel magazine. Just a quote about food culture here in Medellín, but HECK YES I can do that.

And do I have a chip on my shoulder about people who slag the food here for being "rustic", "simple", and "not as good as all the other South American countries"? MAYBE.

But Medellín apparently found its way onto a top 20 list of foodie cities, so apparently I'm not *entirely* alone in my love of simple cuisine done right.

@NiveusLepus

The double-fried plantains were apparently a decent offering to the gods. 😅

@NiveusLepus

They are DANGEROUSLY nibble-able. If you were over, I think it would be difficult for either of us to stop at just one. Or five. Or ten. 😬

(Don't worry: I ate them all to protect us both, this time!)

@MLClark You are so kind! It's a joy to get to talk a while. I've been missing you lately.

Life has kind of had me hopping.

@NiveusLepus

I've been missing you too, Rebecca. I trust that you're taking care of yourself while hopping about to support others.

I find that the hard part of world-grief is how it deepens our isolation from the one thing that best counters it: presence with others in the fray.

I don't doubt that you've been *such* a boon to others in your circles as of late.

I just hope you feel supported in turn. 💜

@MLClark I feel deeply supported by you and a so many others on Coso and out in the world at large.

I had an hour call with @BosmangBeratna today, who I should be meeting next week and he was so kind, and soon @Vozy will be hosting me!

I am being affirmed on every step of my path as of late, and it is a profound moment of deep gratitude in my life.

Thank you for being part of my joy, and my reasons to be grateful in this life.

@NiveusLepus @MLClark @Vozy

I'm honored just to be mentioned here, nevermind know you cool cats. 💜

@BosmangBeratna @MLClark @Vozy You are a joy. You have always been a joy and a gift from the Gods. I can say that about so many folks here. is utter truth.

@MLClark "Simple cuisine done right" was the essence of the movie "Rattatouille" was it not? There's a lot to be said for it.

@stephen_a_allen

Yes! Just as in Ratatouille, Colombia's best cuisine comes from peasant dishes, along with an absolute bounty of local fruits. We have more aged cheeses and meats in North America, for instance, along with other elaborate flavours from preservation, because they're *necessary* for winter. But in Colombia pride in campesino and coastal cultures comes from reliable everyday staples. No "heat" in Colombian cuisine, but you see a whole story of local life in every plate or bowl. 👍🏻
