Well, I just wrote 1,200 of the grimmest words I think I've jotted down in years.
Not sure how this SF story's going to end, but it's started about as bleak as it can get, so... I don't *think* it can go anywhere but up from here?
I'm going to hope that this is my brain's way of expelling bad dreams before sleep, but don't read war histories before bed, I guess. (Or with meals? Or in polite company? Or if you still want to believe in the beauty of life and potential for good in humankind? 🤷♀️)
Reminds me of a passage in my first book regarding an interaction with the police that an agent said would never happen in real life, @MLClark
Thing is, I wrote the incident verbatim of something that actually happened to me! In real life! 😮
@MLClark everything’s fine. 😳perception, insight, knowledge carry a burden. It seems living with cognitive dissonance is a new life skill.🤣 Good night.
@MLClark I do still believe in the potential for good… and in wishing you sweet(er) dreams!✨
@MLClark it maybe goes back to the Buddhist preframing life as suffering so periods or instances of non-suffering are better appreciated? Accepting the fallibility of the human species. Technology and surroundings change, but we’re just wallpapering a contemporary culture over our being social animals one chromosome away from being chimpanzees. Eeep eeep! 🐵
Still cranky we don't act more bonobo than chimp, even though we're genetically equidistant to both. #MoreSexNotWar 🙃
(To reiterate: fiction never has ANYTHING on reality. However low a short story can go, it'll never even scrape the surface of how low humanity can and does go in conflict all the time!)
