It's fascinating. There are many rigid forms of religious practice. I have Catholic friends who pray the hours, which is even more extreme than the five daily prayers in Islam, and the thrice daily structure in Judaism.
Still, Islam's 5 pillars, which include fasting, are the most rigid of any Abrahamic faith, and I don't doubt that the physical impact of dry fasting & feasting for a month annually plays a key role in reshaping mentality. Will be an interesting experience!
NB: Now if I start reciting the shahada, *then* definitely worry about me. 😉 But I think we're pretty safe on that accord.
