Do you have a litmus test question?

Not necessarily for dating - I'm thinking about general interactions with new people. (But if the dating bit applies, go for it.)

Is there a question you ask that gives you a sense of whether there might be friction between you two in the future, but which is innocuous enough that the other person doesn't feel interrogated here and now?

I ask because, hilariously, one of mine is in this episode.

"What's your favourite conspiracy theory?" can yield a great conversation... or bring out a lot of toxic worldviews very quickly. (I learned about a Colombian version of blood libel myth this way. 🙃)

@MLClark

It's not something I bring up, but if it does come up, it's their views on public education.

If they're in favor, they're cool. That tells me they understand the role of society and what we owe future generations.

If they bring up charter schools, that's a yellow flag. I have complicated feelings there, but basically there are good ones, but many siphon money from public schools while limiting who can enroll.

Private schools/vouchers are a red flag.

@nblumengarten

That's an excellent one. All children are citizens and also our collective future in trust. They deserve, across the board, high standards of public education.

Thanks for this, Neil.

I work for a contract operator performing a basic community health service (sewer worker)
our contract with the client (municupality) to do this is not an abdication of the community's collective responsibility to provide for its own health
privatization/monetization of our collective responsibility to educate future voters is, on the other hand, an abdication, and an invitation to christofascism to take over the country
we cannot abandon our kids to a life of stupudity

@John_Downey @nblumengarten

Hear hear, John - and thank you for your work. We could use more "waste disposal specialists" in politics, but your labour is essential right where it is as well.

@MLClark @nblumengarten
thanks we are blessed with a low profile
keep writing please, truth is what we need the most (and someone to remove Moses from Congress asap)
