Okay, this is in the clear running for a CoSo anthem. :)
Susan Aglukark: O Siem
"Oh Siem, we are all family
Oh Siem, we're all the same
Oh Siem, the fires of freedom
Dance in the burning flame"
@MLClark I missed this in all the chaos of the week.
Susan Aglukark is a favourite of mine. The album 'O Siem' was on, 'This Child', was beautiful and I wore it out listening to it. The video was almost as powerful as the song. There wasn't a lot of representation of First Nations and Inuit, that was easily obtainable. The whole album is beautiful but I highly recommend 'Kathy', 'Suffer in Silence', or 'Pond Inlet'. Hina Na Ho is also incredible, of course.
Ah! I should be more precise.
Susan Aglukark has a history that blends both First Nations and Inuit peoples. Her music was released in both English and Inuktitut.
This was the most famous tune of hers, when I was growing up. So much celebration!
