On the plus side, I got to pick up my annual wheat for New Year's. I love this local tradition. You keep a stalk of wheat in the house in hope of prosperity all year round--some simple, some laden with food and other tokens, that your home might always have what it needs--and... on New Year's you burn last year's wheat as a way of saying good freaking riddance. 🙃

Very therapeutic. Catholics here add in prayers and incense and "cleanse" bad spirits from the home, but the burning's enough for me!

@MLClark Oh I love this! I still do first-footing to this day (not that it's ever brought any particular luck...) but this is great.

So does the place you get yours from package it up specifically as a New Year's thing?

There are a lot of street vendors in a country like Colombia, and they put out different wares depending on the season. This is the time when they start putting out analog calendars for 2024, incense, and these just-for-New-Year's stalks of wheat.

I love a good tradition! Studies show that stating intentionality ahead of a task *can* improve our outcomes in it, so it's not for nothing to create a lil starting routine for oneself. Thanks for the smile with respect to first-footing!
