Okay. The Substack is now operating on a semi-paid basis (some free, some paid), but we'll see what happens when I post today's free piece after classes.
I changed the boilerplate on emails to emphasize deep thanks to all subscribers, even on cancellation - because I am a terrible hustler. π And we're all barely getting by.
The podcasts will be free, but I've set up a section for follow-up essays that only paid subscribers will access. Just hope I can keep up with the slate I've set myself! π€
But I only outline all of that to get a lock on my workflow. π
No tengo quejas (I have no complaints!).
Truly, even though my markets are precarious, I have the great privilege of being able to pursue creative work at all, and to advance my "voice", such as it is.
Life is very hard, & most never have the opportunity to do likewise.
I get frustrated only by how much more I would *love* to be able to extend the table. But I don't have the platform for that... yet.
One day, I hope. One day. ποΈ
Workflow is a tricky gig when no one market is paying well enough to live on.
The aim is to get four solid pieces published each week (two at OnlySky, two on the newsletter), record at least one BookTube, and still have time to pitch reviews and articles to higher paying venues, finish the MS, record the rest of my audiobook, and of course keep teaching my online students. (& maybe post memoir for Patreon?)
Doable? Hope so! π€ This is why I said there'll be no more fiction post-novel. No time.
