And... I had a conversation with a COVID denier here. ๐Ÿ˜… Now I have an opening anecdote for my newsletter this week.

Just going to say that I never feel prouder than when I can navigate a *very* delicate conversation in a second language.

More later! ๐Ÿ˜˜

@MLClark You have a remarkable and enviable amount of patience.

@GlennS

๐Ÿ˜… Oh I don't know if I envy me.

It's a slightly different cultural context here, too. COVID denial isn't tightly interwoven into a whole host of other toxic, racist, authoritarian-leaning BS as it is in the West.

So, patience is a touch easier. :)

@MLClark I was sitting in my local pub, chatting with whomever is nearby and willing, as I occasionally do.This one fellow was pretty drunk but amusing enough. Suddenly, though, he made a hard right turn and started comparing vaccines to the Holocaust. I got up and said, "you're nuts and this conversation is over. I'm going over there. Don't follow me." He didn't follow so that was that. But that kind of thing takes all the fun out of going to the local pub.

@GlennS

Ugh. I wholeheartedly understand. I had a local pub that became *exhausting* in Canada because fellows would take a perfectly charming chat and turn it into a chance to ask me if I thought feminism had gone too far, or some other such tedious nonsense.

I now live in a land with *very* few craft options - so I have to ask, to live vicariously through others: what's your brew of choice, when you're not too busy dealing with folks who could use a little more time "fermenting"? ๐Ÿ™ƒ

@MLClark But as for favorite beers, I love a good double or hazy IPA, something with a high ABV. I'm also a sucker for dessert beers, like a good coffee stout or porter. Something with chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and lactose. I even ran into one that had all those, plus chilis. Just spicy enough to tell there was a chili in there but not so much that it drove me away. Check out . You'll see a bunch of myfavorites.

I had to wait until I was back on the desktop to pin that most wonderful hashtag, but thank you so much for sharing your preferences and the existence of that lovely portal for vicarious imbibing!

I always loved a good Russian stout, and there were delicious sours making it into the Ontario scene before I left. There was just so much *joy* and pride that went into local breweries, though, that I also loved simply showing up and sampling the latest tap.

Now I kinda can again! ๐Ÿ‘€๐ŸŽ‰

@MLClark glad you enjoyed it. I have fun with that one. Whenever I try something new, I post it and see what people have to say about it. One guy was absolutely opposed to the idea of fruit and beer combining. I had to laugh at how strongly opinionated he was.
