I genuinely wonder some days when US folks are going to rage and burn it all down. What a brutal episode about the offloading of municipal state responsibilities to little fiefdoms a.k.a. Home Owners' Associations, and the for-profit management firms that feed off them. youtu.be/qrizmAo17Os

@MLClark We have an out of control town administrator who will drive around and send out fines, but nothing that bad, and we can go to the town council and complain about it. It's part of our local government.

How absolutely powerless one must feel to own their home but not have autonomy over their property.

@misslovelymess

Last year I wrote a bit about autonomous zones as ways for private industry to siphon off property and government funding for white-elephant city-building projects that essentially exist to launder money and offer extra-legal pathways for illegal ventures up to and including human trafficking.

This episode was a crushing reminder that autonomous zones aren't even necessary, when states freely contract out key oversight activities in local districts, too. What a broken world.
