Russia's invasion of Ukraine has now reached the one-year mark.
I hope we'll all be gentle with ourselves as we move through the weight of this cruelty.
Today for #OnlySky, I start with my recent experience of armed robbery, to reflect on what we talk about when we talk about "bad" humans - and whether a better vocabulary might serve us, as we try to move ahead in a world where so many make terrible choices that do harm to us all.

@MLClark I agree with you. Most of us are "good people" by luck of having kind-hearted or financially secure or well-adjusted parents who didn't set us on a bad path and who got us mental or physical help when we needed it. We all contain the potential to be monsters. The war in Ukraine is going to change the trajectories of a lot of children's lives and many of them will need lots of help to overcome the effects of their environments.
@AlabamaProgressive Absolutely that. I'm so thankful to be joined by so many people who know that we have to think about how to prevent the harm ahead, even while reeling from the harm on hand. Thank you for reading, and for your deep mindfulness around what is our most important work.

And just as quick proof, I did indeed write a poem in a café last year, while processing the heavy news of war. I might do similar today, if I finish my promo work this morning, and get an essay draft started in the afternoon. What a world.
