Woo! A new story up at Clarkesworld. 🎉

This one belongs to my Partnership universe, which in short fiction centers on a planet full of advanced mysteries. This tale skips forward to a time when the locals have asked all visitors to leave, but one Partnership officer (& her crew of three cranky bots!) has to collect any survivors of a crashed civilian ship.

As ever in these stories, it's our own assumptions we have to surmount, to better understand our world.

I also want to note that Clarkesworld is a FANTASTIC SFF publication because Neil, its editor and founder, works so hard to ensure that new voices are always brought into the fold. This is the 16th anniversary issue, and it includes FIVE new voices to the publication. I can't wait to read their work!

I sometimes get the feeling that folks in my industry don't often read fellow writers, but I'll be doing a write-up soon of my fave 2022 reads in Clarkesworld (& SF in general!). Lots to love! 👌

@thewebrecluse ❤️ I think you mentioned that you've been reading audiobooks a lot lately, yeah? A bit later in October, Kate Baker will have an audio version of the story up - she goes through the issue like a rockstar, one story at a time over the month, every month, and a lot of folks prefer the audio experience.

Until then, what's the last thing you read and really loved? 👀 (Or loved to hate-read! Also legit!)

@MLClark I only just discovered audiobooks this year. I never really was interested in them before.

I have only been listening to classics (Dracula, Turn of the Screw, 10k Leagues Under The Sea etc) and the occasional free book of sex fiction that pops up just out of curiosity 😂

I used to consume books as a child but I stopped reading books completely in December 2000 so I could focus on my own voice as a writer.

Last book I physically turned the pages of ... Transformation by Carol Berg.

@thewebrecluse Woah, that's one heck of a book blurb. I don't usually read fantasy but I already vibe SO much with that main character's attempt to detach himself from caring. 😅 Awesome. I will add it to my to-read list! 😊 Thank you!
