Anybody have experience with burner phones? No, I'm not planning anything nefarious 😉
DD & I realized today that when DGS skips school & we turn off all access to every device in the house, he has no way to summon help if he needs it when we are both out. Landline cancelled a few years ago. I suggested a burner phone but DD seems to think the verizon family app is sufficient. I don't think it's working correctly.
Welcome all thoughts!

@wolfwoman I think you mean pre-paid phones?

A burner is just a prepaid phone without a plan where you pay in cash without any plan or recurring payments.

@wolfwoman

Also note, you can also use any phone with a pre-paid SIM card if you want a "burner".

@Lulz4l1f3 Thanks!! We have a couple of old phones I haven't taken to recycling yet so that's a real help.

@wolfwoman You might just want a cheap plan with your phone then. Unless you are planning on using it a limited timespan.

@Lulz4l1f3 Yeah, no. DD says she is already paying verizon enough for four phones. I suppose I could add a line on my account but I'm investigating a prepaid SIM card for now.

@wolfwoman Verizon is too expensive.

I am paying just under 40 bucks a month for xfinity mobile, limited data over cell.

@Lulz4l1f3 @wolfwoman for what it's worth I use Mint Mobile, $15 a month unlimited text & calls, 5gig data... Since I use wifi at home I only ever run out of data when we're off camping for a week or two. But it's cheap to buy more data too

@Peacebird @Lulz4l1f3
If I wanted data, that sounds good. I *don't* want any data because it's going to be a dumb phone for DGS when he skips school. Only to call 9-1-1 or contact his mom or me. Period.

I'm very happy with my verizon account that I've had for many, many years. 😊
