Anybody else watch 60 minutes?
1950s
In the beginning unmarried women would leave their kids with the church until they could provide for them and then come and get them.
Under Pope Pios XII, the church redefined orphan to be any child without two parents, and then began selling the kids to adoptive parents in the US for $450 each (about $4900 each in today's dollars). Then this turned into a machine that went around looking for unwed mothers and deceiving them and selling their kids.
@Lulz4l1f3 Oh...it gets worse.
@Lulz4l1f3 I just can’t fathom how anyone could know about these things (and there are so many more- Sinead O’Connor tore up the pic of the Pope on live TV because apparently she’d encountered the Magdalene Laundry side of Catholicism, and somehow
SHE was the problem/scandal story) and stay a member of that faith.
I thought hiding child molestations was the worst thing the Catholic church of the 20th century did until I found out about this.
When mothers would come to reclaim their kids, they were told their children died.
