@Lucky188 This is true. The reason, so I've heard, is that the turkey is aggressive and a fierce fighter, which reflected the American spirit in the wake of winning our independence. For some reason, the bald eagle 🦅 won out.

@Lucky188 turkeys are also "socialist". they live in flocks, & a flock of hens will care for ALL the poults, not just their own.
bald eagles look noble i guess, but they are scavengers (eat carrion) mainly, or steal fish from ospreys, etc. (i dislike eagles, particularly bald eagles, intensely)

perhaps a scavenger really is more "USian" than a social flock bird though...
