Tip for those wanting to store some type of food stuffs longer term than normal. Flour, sugar, rice,dry beans etc do last a long time but will succumb to bugs be sure to put the packages the store sells them in into another heavier bug proof container. I buy quantities on sale and have found the vacuum bags they make for clothing will keep them much longer without bugs finding their way in. 5 gallon pails with tight lids work too. Dry beans can be sprouted and grown for more beans as well.
@Pippy I grow mint, spearmint and peppermint in my yard for that reason.
@Lucky188 pro tip!
most grains and flours still can have eggs of bugs in them. ONly way to properly store them long term for years is to put them in mylar bags with an Oxygen absorber. Then store the bags in a container to prevent rodents from getting to them.
you can get mylar bags and the Desiccant quite cheap
@Lucky188 you can also include or at least place in the area basil and peppermint leaves, keeps bugs and mice including silver fish out.
