It's just that the idea of American exceptionalism often comes up at these events, and I'm not buying that narrative. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@LowEndMuse it does, heard lots of it at the DNC as a rallying point.
@Zevon Just one example: If we're so exceptional, why do people go bankrupt due to medical debt in this country?
@LowEndMuse good example. it could be reframed as "the promise of America" which is exceptional and of course a challenge to live up to but worthy of aspiration and actions towards equality/equity and opportunity.
@Zevon Yes, what we 'could be' with the right policies and actions, and without domestic and foreign lobbyists dictating our policies and actions.
@LowEndMuse yeah 👍🏼
@LowEndMuse unless the context is how exceptionally gullible and dumb we are. I can’t believe what my countrymen and women fall for. What a bunch of suckers we have proven to be.
@LowEndMuse to be clear- this comment wasn’t an opinion on the DNC festivities- just a general observation.
I understand your point and agree! That mantra can get a little old & tiresome because it exudes arrogance. You are not alone with regards to your opinion/sentiment.🙂👍
@LowEndMuse I usually skip conventions, since I hardly ever have a reason to watch them.
I might peek in on this one at some point. I’ve caught a lot of positive vibes from folks here who have been watching. 👍
BTW, to be clear, I'm not trying to throw shade at those who are going to watch, I was just ranting about me.
😁
