Is it anti Buddhist to denounce radical, extremist elements of Buddhism? Note: Yes they exist,... See Myanmar.

@LowEndMuse

Is it the Buddhism or the nationalism? Is it the Christianity or the fundamentalism? The religion or the ideology? These are the tricky questions, imho.

@LiseL IMHO, the extremist version of any religion is a bad thing. 👍🏻

...and yes, they are tricky.

@LowEndMuse

Absolutely. I guess I don't necessarily think of the problem as one of extremist versions of religion, but more as extremist ideologies getting "woven in" to particular religions/cultures and causing a world of suffering. But however we look at it, we do need to talk about it -- as long as we can do so from a position of, well, good faith.

@LiseL Yeah, I get what you mean. Kinda like cultural conditioning and such. Took me a while to see how much of that conditioning was present within me. It's hard to let go of.

Ideologies are always doomed to fail in controlling a population because a permanent, ideal situation isn't based in reality, and can never truly be achieved. Constant social and structural change prohibits it.
