@LincolnMitchell A good point. Germany was a relatively young nation when it commenced bombing London (not to mention other atrocities). Most agreed Germany had to be stopped; few thought it should be wiped off the map.
Though I had an uncle who thought Japan should have been "annihilated." Apparently the ultimate penalty is reserved for non-Europeans and Jews.
