I give many who come in like this a chance to acclimate. If they're from Twitter or Facebook, often they're hyper-reactive and assume everywhere is like where they just came from.

An acclimation period needs to happen as one weans off the rage machines.

My pleasue. And its true. And because of that and those interactions we walk into every interaction and space expecting the same. Because why would things be different now right?

But it actually is different here. I laugh and say that it's alot like how things were in the "old days". People sharing more with less fear of being mocked and ridiculed.

@testamonk haha "the old days". It is such a relief to not be attacked for some things people might say by just random trolls, bots and fake accounts. I mean it thankfully never happened to me personally, but the hate online is so tiring.

It really is. I know personally that there have been supportive replies that I've wanted to sent in the past but didn't simply for fear.of what replies I would get. And that's just not cool.

Not here though. Be supportive or inquisitive or whatever and people are either supportive or inquisitive or whatever. As long as they're not dicks.

And I freaking needed it. Shits hard enough without escapism being hard too.

This really is about as safe a SM place as you can get, in my experience. I've had to mute and block a few, but I don't have to spend a half hour every day just blocking trolls. Weaning off the rage machine has been fantastic for my mental health. I came over here full time right when it was announced Elon had officially taken over. It can take a bit to "come down" and - it was probably 2 weeks before I didn't feel I needed to do full background check on potential followers. 😂

Seconding the excellent points that Agatha made in her responses, which correspond with what I have observed since I've been here.

The vast majority of people are friendly and I really enjoy interacting with them.

If you DO encounter harassment, you can report it using the three-dot menu at the bottom right of the post--that violates the Terms of Service, which are enforced.

Again, welcome--really hope you have a good experience!

I have! It's been wonderful. We had a terf troll pop up the other evening, and the response (against the terf) was large and it warmed my cold, black heart.

@stueytheround thanks for the kind words. That's good to know, because you may know that anywhere else it's just all of the above raging on etc.

@LimitlessJas It does take time to adjust. Relax and find your people. Hashtags are your friend here. Use them for two purposes. 1. To find people with the same interests as you and 2. To enable folk to filter out the subjects which they prefer to avoid.

Other than that, dive into any conversation you like and remember there is no algorithm driving the feed so we encourage folk to use the block/mute/report features to curate their experience.
