Going through the annual 'self review' stage with my company. One step is to evaluate one's performance over a number of areas and give yourself a rating from a drop down box from 'Needs Improvement' to 'Meets expectations' to 'Exceeds expectations.'
I gave myself 'Meets' in all areas except one, where I honestly met more challenges and delivered better results than I would have anticipated. So, I selected 'Exceeds expectations.'

That was a month ago. Got the message today from my boss that she's not allowed to forward 'Exceeds,' so 'Meets' would have to do.
Then. Why. Have. It. As. An. Option.

Why should I ever work harder than average from now on?

@Mark15 Same thing here. We joke that we'd have to save an elderly patron from a burning library while singing "The Wheels on the Bus" to get a "very good" rating.

@LiberalLibrarian Building might have been on fire and the patron in need of medical intervention, BUT there's half a cart just sitting there waiting to be reshelved.
