How important is OEM toner on a laser printer? Like I bought my printer used but it came with an almost full cartridge... so I haven't needed it until now. But the OEM toner is 70$ and like every alternative is half that... is it going to kill me if I buy a cheaper cartridge?

@Brisse It might not work. The printer might not recognize it.

@LiberalLibrarian @Brisse Agree it may not work, but there are often workarounds. Some brands easier than others. For my Brother, it was removing a plastic tab.

@b4cks4w @LiberalLibrarian Hmmm... I have an HP M130FW. So it's a chipped cartridge. Might honestly just get the OEM instead of taking the chance. I have ~50 pages left in my toner which is about 10 orders so plenty of time to save up...

@LiberalLibrarian @Brisse HP is notorious.

It *should* be possible to yoink the chip off any existing cartridge and put it on a replacement. Devil, details, YMMV, etc.
