Turned and mixed the compost piles this afternoon (we have thawed out sufficiently for this to be an option). Something rather satisfying about seeing steam rising into the winter afternoon air from the center of the pile you are aerating and mixing up a bit. My garden is part food production; part nature appreciation; and part science appreciation - mixed in with a dose of decent exercise for the body. Kitchen gardens are good for the mind, soul, and body.

@ACG2 Good choice. We are in the maritime Pacific Northwest. No snow here (we did have a serious deep freeze for about a week) so I do some gardening most of the year round. Where I live makes me lucky in that regards.
