This hike reminded/taught me why I prefer hiking in sandals (chacos) to boots. While boots provide extra ankle support, each step is heavier (particularly noticable on inclines that gain such elevation) and they are breeding grounds for blisters.
Two days of hiking in sandals and not one blister. Hike one trail one morning in boots and both heels lose layers of skin. Never again.
Sure I could use a brace, but dusty sandals/feet are a badge of honor to me. (Photo withheld, you're welcome)
