there is something in my field book for the Sierra Nevada, so I don't know how accurate it is, but...

there is a fungi called "DOG VOMIT SLIME MOLD" that resembles your photo!

@Konahawk Slime mold! Unfortunately named, a fascinating living being. It can remember where food is, solve mazes, etc! Some are yellow, some pink or white, come in different shapes, or no shape at all except a sort of mound... indeed, interesting!

Slime, molds, and mushrooms are incredibly fascinating. I practice a form of natural farming that largely utilizes mycelium to fertilize and condition soil.
