The Event Horizon Telescope org (). just released this swirling "image" of Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole () at the center of our galaxy. The spiral lines in the composite image is based on measurements of polarized light emitted by surrounding plasma and highlights the magnetic field around the black hole.

The spiral structure is a result of the strong magnetic field around the black hole, which is caused and shaped by the swirling plasma.
