@elbutterfield @Kinnison Again that is common. People injured in crashes don't cash in quickly either. The biggest reason I think they will get paid? Because their lawyers want their coin too.
If the lawyers are good. They could probably work out some legal means to get a loan for a few million $ from a bank based on the judgement with small interest rate.

@MidnightRider @Kinnison It's the people that make a good neighborhood. All the years of friendship and community. Clearly she is a woman who values that more than whether the neighborhood was upscale or not. "She'll get over it"? The point is that there are things that have been taken from her and her daughter that cannot be replaced.

For PoC the neighborhood is everything. It is your support network. Generations of families living and working together. Kids playing with eachother. "Getting over it" is callous thinking without even asking them what it means to them
This isn't some bedroom community where you only see neighbors when they walk thier dog or get thier mail as most are used to
@Kinnison That's why I added the caveat if she gets paid. Even small people lawsuits take time. What happened is outrageous and wrong. All I'm saying is half of that settlement would catapult a normal life into a luxury level previously unknown.
