Senator John Fetterman giving a speech with Biden and he is once again wearing a hoodie and shorts. I am glad Fetterman won his race. But what is he trying to prove dressing this way?

Some say how Fetterman dresses is irrelevant.. It's his policies that matter. True but there is such a thing as respecting the office by dressing professionally. And how one dresses is the kind of thing many voters will take into consideration when he runs for reelection.

@KathyV

I'm a big disbeliever in the notion of "professional dress". People should wear what they're comfortable wearing and everyone else should mind their own business about it.

@TheLegend_AZ Agree and I submit ithat n a close race how you dress can cost you some votes and it may be enough to swing the election in your opponent's direction.

@KathyV @TheLegend_AZ

Counterpoint: Fetterman didn't dress up, suffered a STROKE, and STILL kicked Doc Ock's ass, explain that, then.

OZZY has really nice suits. Didn't help him any.

@mcfate Glad he won but Fetterman also doesn't face the voters again until 2028 when he may not even run. But if dressing in shorts at press conferences, white house functions etc doesn't matter than it would be okay for Biden who is running in 2024 to do it too but he's wearing a suit and tie.

@KathyV

Me, I'd bet that the people whom Fetterman pays to do his polling actually run focus groups and such on stuff just like this.

@mcfate Biden knows that in a Presidential race where the popular vote doesn't matter and elections are won by a few swing states that he has to wear a suit whether he wants to or not. If he starts showing up the way Fetterman is dressing we may see Trump back in the White House and thar would be a disaster

@KathyV

If my great-aunt had had three axles and ten wheels, she'd have been a dump truck, too.

@KathyV

Good. Stop clogging up my notifications, please, this is just silly.

@KathyV Interesting...Obama got roasted for wearing a tan suit. Was this disrespectful to the office? Or women not allowed to wear pants suits or to cover their arms in halls of Congress by GOP?

@Victor there is a difference between a tan suit and a Senator wearing shorts and a hoodie when one is a US Senator.

@KathyV Yes, there are stereotypical differences:
1. Suit: money, educated, professional, trustful
2. Hoodie: hoodlum, poor, up-to-no-good, illiterate, low life, liar
To say that someone is not dressed for the occasion does not translate into a person that lacks empathy, decorum, respect. Aloof, perhaps, Do they care what someone thinks about how they dress? Maybe not.

@KathyV Which brings me to wearing "Sunday Best" to church and how people used to dress up just to fly in an airplane. It's been well over 45+ years since I attended church-left for various reasons, but the mentality has changed dramatically in both instances. So much so, that old folks are resistant to change and cringe at these insufferable miscreants.

@Victor Agree that a suit doesn't necessarily convey trust. Trump wears a suit and there is no more untrustworthy person on the planet. But dressing appropriately for an event is something people do pay attention to. A job interview or how someone shows up at a family member's wedding. If everyone at the wedding is super casual than fine but if they all dress nice to show respect to the happy couple then to come in a t-shirt and shorts is selfish.

@KathyV Tis an interesting conversation in many ways...Truthfully, do people really dress up 2 show respect at events or is it vanity, primordial urge to showcase your wealth, masculinity or whatever other social grandstanding you need to show the world. Bright, colorful plumage to attract a suitor or outshine the bride? Or wear dull, boring outfit so as not to attract attention? There are social implications that are needlessly imposed by society. I enjoy watching from afar these interactions.

@KathyV Here is a poll that asks the following question: Do you dress up for an event (wedding, banquet...) for:
1. Make an impression, look good, show everyone that you are in the room.
2. Dress up as a means to show respect, be formal, follow tradition.
3. Don't care, I just want to be comfortable and not stand out. Leave me alone.

@Victor I would say it's a little of both. People want to dress nicely at an event because they want to look good to themselves and others but also if they dress inappropriately they will stand out and some people may enjoy that but I don't think most do.

@KathyV

Unfortunately you are probably correct. When I was in Jr. Hi, I realized that there a ppl who will criticize ANYTHING about you if for whatever reason they don't like you. At that time, I decided to take every (what we called them at that time) slam as a compliment. The one's trying to dis me didn't get the reaction they wanted & left me alone.

Remember the ones who criticized President Zelenskyy for his attire that he wears as his country battles the illegal invasion of Putin?

@Gladari Zelensky is fighting for his country so his army dress is very appropriate wherever he wants to wear it. I learned in school too that bullies pick on kids regardless but still you want to dress nicely and appropriately for yourself and I say this as someone who isn't the best dresser but I would like to do better.

@KathyV

Agree about Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. And yet there were MAGAts & RWNJ's making fun of him & criticizing his attire as he met with world leaders.

I'm of the opinion that whatever a person wants to wear is OK with me. I see so many of these "act your age" "a senior woman shouldn't wear that", etc. It is a pet peeve of mine. Even though in a past life I was a Corp. Exec., I don't buy into that suit & tie "uniform" dictated to men.

Never saw Steve Jobs in a suit.

@Gladari I think Zelensky came as a shock to MAGAs. He is a reminder of what true bravery and leadership looks like and how no one can predict it ahead of time. Trumpers fell for the bragging and bullying of Putin confusing that with courage.

@KathyV

👏 👏 👏 👏

I believe you are absolutely correct Kathy! However, they should have gotten a clue when he didn't break when TFG tried to bully him "with just a favor, though" to get the money already allocated to the Ukraine!

OH DEAR. THIS POST WAS SET TO SELF-DETONATE 💣 💥 🔥

@awnaves And what happens if Biden decides tomorrow to show up in shorts orca hoodie or even worse a bikini? He's doing a good job but how is that going to play in Nov 2024 when people go to the polls?

@KathyV Do you wear pantyhose and pearls every time you leave the house? Churches and employers have relaxed a lot on attire. Fetterman can wear what works best for him. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Avalea I rarely leave the house so no need for pantyhose but I am overweight and not young so you would not see me in shorts once I am outside.

@KathyV Okay so if we were in the 50’s where pantyhose and pearls were “a thing”, then you’d be a Fetterman bc you couldn’t, per your response, dress that way due to your weight etc. Which means YOU, in particular, should be MORE understanding that he dresses in a way that fits him. Yeah? Give grace, not criticism. Thanks.

@Avalea Why wouldn't I wear panty hose and pearls if we were back in the 50's? Those two items have nothing to do with weight. But wearing shorts to a job interview or around the office is another story. Fetterman is not being asked all that much in wearing a suit.

@KathyV I agree. I get that’s his signature look on the campaign trail but there are times when we should dress appropriately for the occasion.

Appearing with the President of the United States really requires some thought about what you wear.
