@singlemaltgirl Was this in Nelson?
There are several towns in the BC interior where there have been protests against "15 minute cities". Two of them were in Nelson and Kamloops, which are already mostly 15 minute cities. #CoSoCanucks
@heatherdale do you think part of that is being so isolated so it's susceptible to a few key influential nutjobs infecting the whole town? @KamloopsBob
@singlemaltgirl @KamloopsBob
It could be, it’s very geographically insulated.
I had neighbours who appeared fairly ordinary but who legit straight-faced believe the earth is hollow (and that there’s a special race of people living in there).
There’s been a large anti-vax community for at least 30 years.
My ex, who is very educated and to my recollection, logical, became a free-man-on-the-land and figuratively died on that hill.
The 15-minute city conspiracy theories, I can’t even. 🙈wtaf
@heatherdale @singlemaltgirl I think it's due to crystal meth. Or some similar drug.
@KamloopsBob i think it's due to the stupid. 🤔 @heatherdale
@heatherdale @KamloopsBob @singlemaltgirl I'm in Trail about 80km away from Nelson - sometimes it feels like that's not far enough 🤣
@NorthernInvader @KamloopsBob @singlemaltgirl
In my day in those parts (roughly throughout the 90s), Trail had its issues too.
I lived for 4 years in Castlegar which was a pretty neutral medium for me at the time. If you ignore the smell 😂.
When the Flu Trux Klan came through last year my friend in Castlegar was shocked at how many supporters they got in such a small town.
Was it also bad in Trail?
I know it was bad in Nelson. “Hippies” and “Rednecks” oddly united in that “cause” 😞
@heatherdale 😡 i was in alberta at the time. those trucks - fuck me. so many peeps were just ripe for the plucking on stupid. and you're right. the greenies were anti vaxxers & united w/ the rednecks/white supremacists. it was a disgusting show of unity over intolerance.
@singlemaltgirl @NorthernInvader @KamloopsBob
Right? One thing I miss about the sh*t bird is the #ramranchresistance 🤠 who totally held the fort during that loud racistness thinly disguised as a “personal autonomy” ❓crusade.
What a stain on our history. But sane people held fast.
This 15-minute city conspiracy theory is breathing new life into those turds. They are framing it as “climate lockdown” which is a horror show squared. 😞
@heatherdale i heard about ramranchresistance. they're shit was funny as hell. i'm glad they kept up the humour in the midst of what to me, was a national tragedy.
i still can't look at a 🇨🇦 flag the same. anyone flying 1? i look at w/ suspicion. i wept for my country. i may have felt racism all my life but never so openly, so publicly, & seen so many peeps support it.
you're right. such a stain on our history. it will take a long time to heal. @NorthernInvader @KamloopsBob
@singlemaltgirl @NorthernInvader @KamloopsBob
At that time (of the hell-spawn trucks) I remember someone tweeted “I never felt apprehension about the Canada flag before” and a First Nations account replied “welcome to our world”
That kind of stuck with me. 😓
@heatherdale @KamloopsBob @singlemaltgirl I moved here in 2007 was in Rossland for the previous 10 years. Trail still has a homeless and drug problem.
@NorthernInvader @KamloopsBob @singlemaltgirl
I love the West Kootenays and I have beautiful life-long friends there that are more like chosen family
Last summer I went to Shambala and camped for three days and literally danced all night
Through the course of the 10 days I was in the region, each friend took me to their own special swimming hole.
There’s good vegan food everywhere and peeps are generally friendly
So one can overlook the nutbar ratio 😀
@heatherdale @KamloopsBob @singlemaltgirl LOL my late wife lived in Salmo and when we were courting we could hear Shambala all the way in town :)
@KamloopsBob fraser valley. but yes, they think the same about 15 minute cities. b/c they're fucking dumb as shit.
honestly, i feel like i'm becoming dumber living here.
@KamloopsBob @singlemaltgirl
I lived in Nelson and area for about a decade and I go back often to visit friends. It always feels to me kind of exceptionally prone to conspiracy bs. For example, otherwise ordinary-seeming people casually using the term “plandemic” 🙄
