One reason for the company's financial issue were that the two main shareholders always paid their own dividend--20% of the gross--before they paid the payroll or other bills. This left them constantly juggling to meet their financial obligations. No doubt to protect themselves, towards the end they were using cash to pay employees.

It was cold. It was horrible. But it was typical, because all along the owners only ever cared about themselves and the money they could make, even while running the company into the ground.

They faxed all their offices with instructions to post notices on their doors saying they were closed for good but leaving no contact information, stuffed all the cash in their pockets, turned off the lights, and went home. Employees didn’t discover they had been laid off until they went to work the next day to find a locked door with the notice.

I’ve seen large private companies die, and it’s not pretty. At one place I worked, the company struggled for years because of mismanagement. Finally, at the end, the two main shareholders—the CEO and the GM—counted up the cash receipts the day before payday and realized that they didn’t have near enough money to cover the bills.

Barring a quick turnover, the game is over. The Eagles win.

The product you get by using some of these tools is called "typing." It is just clacking on a keyboard. No one should dare call "writing."

Buy yourself a standard HS grammar textbook and Strunk and White's. Bust your ass studying them--live in them. And then read good writers as much as you can. And when you aren't busting your ass studying and reading, write. That is the only way.

I saw this posted on LinkedIn. As someone who makes a pretty good living off of writing, all I can say is, "No. Just don't. Not if you really want to be a good writer." I wouldn't give a nickle for most of these products, and some are actually quite destructive.

The issue is that these vices and failings are common to almost everyone. It's just that some people refuse to allow their vices or failings to lead them into a trap. A truly innocent person with pure motives is almost impossible to successfully con.

Political hucksters can also turn to the old standbys of ambition, resentment, spite, hatred, and racism to reel people in.

Successful cons, by the way, nearly always work because the conman appeals to people's vices or failings. Greed combined with an inflated view of one's intellect compared to the conman makes many people easy prey, but people's worry and fear can also be used to trap them.
