The problem is that a lot of them have strong negatives. You don't want to motivate apathetic voters to get off their couches to come vote against them. Hillary was one of the most qualified candidates ever, but a lot of people didn't like her. If we had ranked choice voting, then you'd want as many in the primary as possible, but as it is, a field of good people will split the majority of the vote and the crazy candidate will win with the crazy 10% of the voters.

People often ask me if I'm worried about North Korean aggression since I live in Japan. My answer is that I don't generally worry about possible black swan events that I have no control over. I've enough real things to worry about. I just note what is happening and move on.

For the record, while Will gives a good list of reasons--based mostly on policy--why Biden and Harris should not run, he does not give any suggestions as to who in the Democratic Party would have better policies or be stronger candidates.

I used to work for a woman who was bat guano crazy. Once she gave me an article of clothing (pretty much in lieu of pay). My first thought: "I'm free!"

Think about the other clowns who ran for president in 2024. Would any of them be stronger candidates than Biden? There is no one on the bench that can easily win this thing.

George Will thinks that both Biden and Harris should decline to run in 2024, or else we face another Trump presidency.

While I agree that Biden and Harris are both weak candidates, here's the thing: When it is winner take all, you have to go with the hand you got. Just because all you have is a pair of twos, you don't throw away your whole hand and demand five new cards. You just don't.

When there was the assassination attempt on Reagan, I was working in the MA state house. Very Democratic office. Tip’s son. No Reagan fans there. Yet as the news spread, staff people wept. There was a pervasive sense of humanity and basic civility. Nothing like that exists in the QOP now.
