Don’t Be Pauline Kael by Charlie Sykes https://open.substack.com/pub/morningshots/p/dont-be-pauline-kael
@Miamoex My point is that they are people you don't know and haven't talked to. You are correct in one sense, however: their fears are largely illusory. They are reacting to what they see on TV and horror stories being peddled on social media, on Fox News, and on local news programs ("If it bleeds, it leads!") and saying, "I don't want that in my community or in my schools!" But none of their fears are things they have experienced firsthand.
@Miamoex If, for example, crime were the most important issue in large cities, as the GOP contends, then the voters there would be throwing the Democrats out. But it isn't the most important issue there.
@John_Scotus Chris Hayes just talked about this on his show. Folks most worried about crime in cities, never go to cities and don't realize areas in Oklahoma have worst crime than NYC etc.

@John_Scotus I do talk to these people (too much for my taste)...my industry is full of them and they drive me nuts. Just argued with one guy telling everyone about a local school with a girl self-identifying as a cat. 🙄
I said, "that's not true." But he was soooo convinced.
@John_Scotus I get out alot and talk to tons of people. These seem like the opinions of people who don't get out a lot.
