Truth be told, I think I’m experiencing major burnout. I haven’t taken even a weeks worth of vacation this year. And I think it’s taking a toll on me. Most times I feel like I can ignore it and I feel okay enough, and other times I feel a sense of desperation weighing on me. It feels like suffocation. And then it releases in a few days and I feel like it was just something I had to push past and continue advancing through my days and weeks.

@JiPp3R I'm self-employed and have been for a lot of years. The only times I've ever taken more than a week off in a year has been due to the death of a family member. Most of my yearly 'vacations' are long weekend trips near a federal holiday, taking Fri. and Monday, maybe Tuesday off, depending on what day the holiday falls.

@MakerWerks That’s rough. Self-employment is a double-edged sword in that way. High reward but costly in other ways. Besides the self-employment, that’s how mine tends to line up. My vacation days tend to be used up for federal holidays to travel.

@JiPp3R I took tmrw and Monday off precisely for this reason. It’s a luxury I’m grateful for, and makes me a happier and more productive employee.

@clong My birthday is coming up soon, so I’ll start winding down around then and take more days for myself. First things first is taking that day and doing whatever I’d like. Around the holidays, I’m going to take an extended break with the company assigned holidays to stretch it.

@JiPp3R Competition of coinciding time off with company assigned holidays is a tiptoeing act I’d rather not be involved with. Happy early birfday to you!

@mightymite Micha! I miss you! And I hope the same for you. Glad to see you around, I hope you’re doing well despite the burnout.
