Long Time History
Watch how young men today don't know that a woman couldn't get a credit card until 1974 — explains huge gender gap among Gen Z!
Mom couldn't get credit until year my sister was born. After Roe gave woman bodily autonomy in 1972, it led to more financial equality in just 2 years.
Prior to that, women needed their husbands, fathers, or brothers to cosign for a loan or credit card.
When one right of a woman is under attack, all women's rights are under attack.
@Jezibaba I didn't get one until 1984, when I was 27.
@Netherbury @Jezibaba I didn't know this. My first credit card was 1982. Wonder if that was the case in Canada as well.
@Anemone @Netherbury I'm guessing so though I don't know.
@Anemone @Netherbury I feel like we Xers heard all of this but it didn't register as deeply as it should have. As well, we gals in the 80s were unfettered by predatory banks. Knee deep in debt by the time we hit 25.
@Jezibaba @Anemone Within 5 years of getting my first credit card I was maxed out and had my car repossessed. I didn't escape the pitfalls either.
