@Jezibaba OMG ... this is what some folks will need to see to comprehend the danger they are in.
@Jezibaba Surreal :(
@Jezibaba And that's only 9 feet. The projected 15 feet? Oooh boy.
@Jezibaba I have 8 foot ceilings. 😅
@Jezibaba this, I think is actually quite helpful.
I think visualizing possibilities really brings it home.
@Jezibaba Do you know which Beach this is in Miami?
@Pat_Walrond I do not.
@Jezibaba Whoa. I cannot even comprehend what you just showed here. For once I’m glad to be in Indiana, far from the ocean, hurricanes and storm surges.
@GrandmaJ I don't know how Floridians do it.
@Jezibaba I don’t either. I would be hightailing it to higher, dryer ground and save Florida for a place to visit.
Wow.
@Jezibaba Thank you for sharing. It’s terrifying, but understanding the facts of the situation helps so much.
@Jezibaba holy crap !! That is scary !! Thanks for sharing!!
That really shows the devastation... 15 foot storm surge decimates all in its wake in 3 minutes. Heartbreaking.
@Jezibaba I am confused. Milton rolled in after dark. What's this?
@Jezibaba Where the heck was that camera mounted?
The camera was mounted on an a lamp post by US Geological Survey scientist studying storm surge.
Yes, drowning is the #1 cause of death during Hurricanes.
@dauphin87 @Jezibaba @Pat_Walrond Last night you asked where the storm camera gauge was mounted.
Here's a similar set up that was used to record vidually and physically the historic storm surge levels l in Ashville. In this 1 min clip, the USGS employee explains how it works.
@Jezibaba @Pat_Walrond
Thought you might like to know that's not miami nor #Milton.
That footage was taken in 2022 during Hurricane Ian and I believe it the area was Ft Meyers. The red house featured had a couple and 2 dogs that were rescued after the home was swept away clinging to lamp poles.
The USGS scientist that set up the storm surge camera, shared the story in a PBS special that I watched.
Holy mother of Wow!😮
@Jezibaba stunning!
