Finally reading words I have long wondered about. The question is, will they do it?
Congress Should Pass a Law Against Election Interference
Trump is unlikely to be the last sitting president to try to overturn the people’s vote.
Counting the votes and declaring a new president isn’t just an official government function or proceeding. It’s the very basis of democracy. It deserves to be protected by its own law. #Asswaffle #elections #voting
@DavidSalo I keep circling back to the fact we're expecting those who got elected/voted in to protect that system from nefarious behavior. It nags at my brain that we're asking the foxes to guard the henhouse. At the risk of sounding cynical, I'm always wondering about constitutionalism and all it might entail.
@Jezibaba
This is not quite the same thing, but for years now I've felt that there should be a federal law making it a felony to prevent or attempt to prevent someone from voting: through force obviously, but also through deception or misinformation, e.g., about the time or place of voting or about eligibility. Or by passing laws that make it harder for people to vote.
