@Museek it would be so hard to keep buildings standing at a 7.7 but I understand how important it is to at least try to build in earthquake country
@Jezibaba I know.. our old house was an earthquake rebuild from Loma prieta many years ago.. it was rebuilt to withstand an 8.0 for two minutes… with ribar every two feet, the entire house would shift with the ground, presumably. Areas with liquefaction would be difficult to predict but I think that if the buildings were up to the code they required for our build, you’d have many more buildings standing.
That was one heck of an earthquake, though… very sad.
@Jezibaba I read the Turkish government is now holding building contractors accountable..
33,000 people died as a result of this one earthquake and the death toll is still climbing.
Unreal and so sad…
