Pepper nautilus octopus. Argonaut. Only the females have the shells which are "paper" thin, and are secreted to protect their eggs, which they do not lay ashore but carry until hatched. They only live for a year and spend their lives floating near the surface. This one perhaps washed ashore accidentally or is at the end of it's life. If I found one, I would place her back into the water.
