When scientists first saw this image from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, they thought the pattern of rings might be an illusion, like a lens flare in a photograph. But further analysis shows that the remarkably regular rings are shells of cosmic dust created every eight years by the binary star at the center, Wolf-Rayet 140.
