One bit I'd gladly never seen in any form of crime fiction again is the scene where, when asked by police investigating a murder of their whereabouts at the time, someone becomes blusteringly outraged at the very possibility cops might consider them a suspect.
Is there really anyone anywhere who doesn't know of course everyone on the periphery of a murder has to be considered a POSSIBLE suspect until they can be eliminated from the list? Isn't that what everyone would expect by now?
@YesThatStevenGrant Yes they do. When I worked in child protection, we frequently worked with the police and I watched people lose their shit and act stupid all the time.
Not everybody watches police procedurals on television. Get a hold of somebody who believes they are a sovereign citizen and see what happens.

@J_Windrow I appreciate that such things do happen in real life - what doesn't? - but the point is there's really no excuse for repeating hoary clichés in fiction, & "real life" is no excuse...
