I love being on #CoSo and love the vibe here, the lack of fury, arguments, bots, trolls and abuse is really something I thought was unattainable.
But it's easy to forget that @th3j35t3r is working behind the scenes to keep it this way. It's not magic, it's the work of one person.
Having just seen some of the lunatic emails he has to put with, I think we should all celebrate this place and what it means to all of us.
Thank you.
If you can, please do Go Pro.
@Florence @th3j35t3r My late husband and I managed a very large email list. We had problems, but nothing like th3j35t3r has to deal with on a routine basis.
The people doing this are very angry, entitled individuals. Folks like this can easily end up shooting up a store full of innocent people.
I'm immensely thankful no one knows who th3j35t3r is. They don't stop at emails if they know how to find you.
I went pro here within days.
Respect. Appreciation for safety.
@Florence @th3j35t3r Part 2 - sometimes it is entitled tantrums, but a lot of these people have significant anger management problems.
It's not about mental health. As someone who had a career in both mental health/social work and law I can assure you that some of these individuals can be dangerous. Some are throwing a fit. Some are like incels who will murder a woman.
I never ever want anyone to know who @th3j35t3r is. People threaten Jim Wright too.
@J_Windrow @Florence @th3j35t3r
Also, he is notable for doing what nobody else has done. People are very sensitive, insecure, and whiny. When someone is tremendously talented - I try to learn from them.
If I am ever the smartest person in the room, I am looking for an exit. 🤷🏻♀️
@CajunBlueAZ1 @Florence @th3j35t3r Ditto re: LAN parties.
Also re: attentiveness to security threats.
Late hubby wasn't only a white-hat for a DoD contractor he was also one of the security gurus. I suspect the same thing still applies: the greatest security risk is between the chair and the keyboard.
By having someone who is NOT a security risk covering that risk area, safety is greatly enhanced.
@J_Windrow @Florence @th3j35t3r
Agreed. I was a correctional health social worker in a prison serving offender/patients with acute care needs for stabilization, and a hospital CM.
People are willing to commit to their obsession.
Jester is able to be successful because of his attentiveness to security threats. He is “just a guy.” He is also an old school BBS raised computer guy who is exceptionally skilled. I don’t know him from Adam, but went to my share of LAN parties.
