Alaska U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski wins reelection
Murkowski beat Trump-backed challenger Kelly Tshibaka by more than seven points after ranked choice votes were tabulated.

Again, ranked voting achieved the most moderate candidate.

Murkowski (her father is an Alaskan political legend) was almost assured of winning because she won before as an independent due to ranked voting.

@J_Windrow i am of the opinion that ranked voting is going to be our best way out of this mess, nationwide. it allows us to better vote by policy not party.

@silent_dystopia I also agree ranked voting is the best way out of this national mess.

At this point, Alaska, Nevada and Maine are the only three states doing it.

Extremists will oppose it because their candidates lose.

Like all things, it's going to be a process to get it into place.

@J_Windrow has to start somewhere; we just passed ranked choice at the county level (Multnomah) and the City level for Portland city council and mayor.

There's a statewide initiative but it didn't make it on the ballot, I'm not sure why. We need to push for initiatives like these nationwide, this is how we take power from entrenched partisan systems that would not otherwise change.

Initiatives are power.
