Fun fact: Woody wrote this song as a counterprotest to Irving Berlin's jingoistic God Bless America, (the early 1900's version of that ear garbage God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood), which was constantly on the radio at that time in 1940.
Woody's son Arlo was famously arrested for dumping trash in Stockbridge, MA.
But that's a different song for a different holiday.
