I always feel a bit off in the stomach when I see travel bloggers I respect spending money in places like Saudi Arabia.

You do know how women are being treated there, right? You do know that gays, dissidents, protesters, and trans people are being killed by the state there, right?

You want to do something, give that money to causes fighting for equality and civilized treatment of the people, all the people.

@Iskios there are so many interesting places in this world. i lose respect for those that choose to go to countries that are actively harming marginalized & historically oppressed peeps. you can go other places. explore other destinations. share w/ us the beauty & wonder of places where anyone could go regardless of their gender or race or sexual orientation.

i just don't read or watch them. journalists can share w/ me what's going on in those places. imho.

@singlemaltgirl Some of them doing it to show that the propaganda we see on our news sources is often far from being the whole picture, and I get that, but it is still discomforting to see them spending thousands of dollars making videos there, basically supporting the economy of tyrants.

@Iskios oh amnesty & the un can show the propaganda & the real story. we don't need travel writers to do it. they're supporting a tyrannical regime for what? entertainment? yeah, no.

that's just me, tho. i have no respect for them. but i'm sure they have 1000s of fans who love & adore them.
