Annual Halloween viewing of John Carpenter's _The Thing_ tonight
Saw it in the theater on opening day, first showing.
And I was perplexed.
Apparently at my then 19yo age I was not sophisticated enough to grasp the mix of silly and serious. I got some bits and others I didn't, PARTICULARLY the STOOPID fight between Roddy and Keith.
Only later did I grasp the serio-comic "kayfabe"-tude of it all. NTM the satiric value...π€
I STILL liked it, but maybe I was looking for something more like "The Thing" as an "invasion critique"...?

LOL you are absolutely correct! That's what I get for trying to watch LAD/NYY, cook dinner, and check out CoSo! Mea culpa...
YES, as for "The Thing" -- which I saw opening weekend in a sold out theater in the Rio Grande valley TX (summer '82) -- that showing remains one of the few times where I was witness to EVERYONE jumping out of their seats and screaming during the infamous "blood test"!
And yes, Keith David's first big movie role...! π π
@InUnfunky hah--I bet! That was a hair-raising scene.
