In my 1980's high school American Literature class, we read Langston Hughes (1901-1967) & James Baldwin (1924-1987).
Nowadays, Republicans want to replace them with Ayn Rand.

Naw Bixie.

That's in college, a private "Christian" one where they reconcile Jesus and the prophets with Randy "WHERE'S MY MEDICAID!!!" Rand and Pinochet cuz Friedman.

For high school it'll be excised parts of the OT/NT from same private "Christian" college and Donnie's "The Art Of The Deal." Then they'll watch his TV show that duped all the CNN conservatives.

@InUnfunky
Look at how fearful Republicans have become in the past 50 years. Fearful to let young adults see the truths that a good humanities education shows them.

@Bix @InUnfunky

Conservatism has always required fear. Fear of change. Fear of freeing the enslaved. Fear of a large middle class. Fear of unions. Fear of losing the peasant class. Fear of educating young people. Fear of "other".

@InUnfunky
But yes, they just drop the writers and not replace them with different ones.
